"HUKUMARO" is a River Totara wood artwork that interprets the concept of time through the elegant form of a bird's tail. Shannon uses the "Past Present Future" symbol to represent the interconnectedness of generations. The unique qualities of the river matai enhances the visual impact of the piece. The title, "HUKUMARO" (tail of a bird, tail feather), becomes a symbol of movement, direction, and the ongoing flow of time.
The binding at the top symbolizes the strength of our friendships and whānau (family) ties, illustrating how we are all interconnected.
